County Jail

Several people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 2:12 a.m. Michael J. VanVactor, 40, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated, driving with an ACE of .08 or more and possession of marijuana.

Wednesday

• At 9:15 p.m. Ryan M. Evens, 42, Bainbridge, was taken into custody for burglary, theft and fraud.

• At 8:19 a.m. Jessie J. Furnish, 31, Camby, was housed at the jail for possession of a narcotic drug, trafficking with an inmate, possession of a controlled substance and official misconduct.

• At 1:20 a.m. Bryant T. Jones, 26, Greencastle, was booked in on a warrant.

Tuesday

• At 5:13 p.m. James Means Jr., 38, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for probation violation.

City Police

A 23-year-old Greencastle woman was arrested on alcohol-related charges following an early morning incident Tuesday on East Washington Street.

Madison Woodall was driving a 2008 Hyundai Tucson, registered to Deborah Harmon, Indianapolis, when she collided with a parked 2007 Hyundai Sonata owned by Christina Cambron, Cloverdale.

Officer Justin Herd reported significant damage to the rear driver’s side of the parked vehicle in the 12:02 a.m. incident.

Woodall is facing charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after registering a .235 percent blood-alcohol concentration under portable breathalyzer testing.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated the following recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Michelle Hodge, 49, Cloverdale, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2022 Nissan Altima when she hit a deer.

Despite heavy damage to the front of the vehicle, Hodge’s husband was able to come to the scene and strap the bumper to the vehicle and drive it home.

Deputy Todd Hopkins estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 8:37 p.m. on Tuesday, Mace A. Mannah, 26, Brazil, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2012 Honda Accord when she hit a deer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to nine incidents since Monday evening:

• At 7:46 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 11 N. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:49 and could not determine the cause of the alarm. They reset the alarm system and advised that maintenance be contacted to troubleshoot it. GFD went back into service at 7:55 p.m.

• At 8:37 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident at 609 E. Washington St. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 8:42 and cleaned up debris. GFD went back into service at 8:57 p.m.

• At 9:58 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched for a gas leak at 3709 S. U.S. 231. Firefighters arrived at 10:02 p.m. and located the leak on the outside and shut off the gas. CenterPoint Energy was contacted for repairs, and GFD went back into service at 10:43 p.m.

• At 11:44 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident with injuries at the intersection of Warren Drive and Veterans Memorial Highway. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 11:50 and assisted with patient care. GFD went back into service at 12:34 p.m.

• At 6:18 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched for a gas leak at Percy L. Julian Drive and Avenue E. Firefighters arrived at 6:25 and could not locate the source of the leak. CenterPoint Energy was contacted, and GFD went back into service at 6:53 p.m.

• At 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:47 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:57 p.m.

• At 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to a DePauw dormitory at 418 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:18 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:25 p.m.

• At 8:26 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:30 and determined the alarm was caused by hair care products. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:33 p.m.

• At 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Blanchard House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:43 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:50 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded to three medical assists and had two disregards during this timeframe.
