County Jail

Eleven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 5:03 a.m. Zachary S. Hesler, 36, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for domestic battery, strangulation, driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.

• At 4:09 a.m. Michael J. VanVactor, 40, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction and driving while intoxicated.

Friday

• At 7:07 p.m. Brandon S. Hicks, 22, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and conspiracy to commit auto theft.

• At 6 p.m. Dustin M. Kennedy, 27, Cloverdale, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe and conspiracy to commit auto theft.

• At 9:50 a.m. Jessica L. Hart, 35, New Market, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for theft.

• At 3:28 a.m. Nicholas A. Guyton, 36, Terre Haute, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 1:18 a.m. Bryce A. Brown, 18, Danville, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

Thursday

• At 11:10 p.m. River A. Wright, 30, Spencer, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 6:04 p.m. James E. Wright III, 30, Clayton, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 3:22 p.m. Johnathan T. Bixler, 26, Poland, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 10:17 a.m. Joseph C. Rossetti Jr., 30, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 5:49 p.m. Saturday, Clifton Tuell, 58, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Taken into custody at a Tacoma Drive residence, Tuell was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a pair of Putnam County warrants. One was for violation of probation on an original charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a prior offense and a second for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

• At 7 p.m. Thursday, Frank Saathoff, 37, Reelsville, was arrested by Officer Chris Helmer.

Taken into custody at a Castlebury Apartments residence, Saathoff was booked into the jail on a Putnam County warrant for battery causing serious bodily injury.

Two individuals were recently issued summonses by city officers:

• At 3:03 a.m. Friday, Brandi Stewart, 39, Reelsville, was cited by Officer Helmer.

Stopped on South Jackson Street, Stewart was given a summons into court for possession of a schedule IV controlled substance.

• At 10:49 p.m. Feb. 6, Alzeez Hamzat, 21, Terre Haute, was cited by Officer Justin Herd.

Stopped in the parking lot of Buffalo Wild Wings off Indianapolis Road, Hamzat was issued a summons into court for possession of marijuana.

Two recent citations were issued by city officers:

• At 2:40 p.m. Saturday, Paice Niemeyer, 32, Fillmore, was ticketed for speeding by Reserve Officer David Clodfelter.

Stopped on South Jackson Street at Veterans Memorial Highway, Niemeyer was cited for 44 mph in a 30-mph zone.

• At 11:10 a.m. Saturday, Veronica Carter, 19, Cloverdale, was ticketed for speeding by Officer McDaniel.

Stopped at South Jackson and Beveridge streets, Carter was cited for 40 mph in a 30-mph zone.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 12:28 p.m. on Thursday, Sherrie R. Lance, 60, Coatesville, was eastbound on Heritage Drive in the Patriots Landing area in a 2019 Buick Cascade when she fell asleep.

The car left the road and hit a mailbox then continuing, where it struck a large berm of rocks at the end of a driveway.

Lance was not injured and was able to drive the vehicle from the scene.

Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.

• At 6:18 p.m. on Wednesday, Jason R. Everman, 44, Coatesville, was eastbound on State Road 236 in a 2021 GMC Sierra when he hit a deer.

Reserve Commander Ken Rozelle estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to five incidents since Thursday afternoon:

• At 4:46 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw University-owned duplex at 107 W. Hanna St. Firefighters arrived at 4:47 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 4:53 p.m.

• At 3:04 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Greencastle Middle School for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:09 and construction workers advised of no issue. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 3:19 p.m.

• At 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Pi Beta Phi at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:19 and were advised by the housemother that the alarm had been reset. The alarm showed a trouble issue and the housemother said the alarm company would be contacted. GFD went back into service at 9:29 a.m.

• At 4:17 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the Putnam County Jail for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:22 and were advised by staff that while there was no fire, a water sensor switch was activated on a riser main. The alarm system was reset after an investigation was made. GFD went back into service at 4:37 p.m.

• At 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Delta Tau Delta at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:20 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:25 a.m.

Additionally, GFD responded to six medical assists and had one disregard in this timeframe.
