County Jail

Six people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Friday

• At 4:58 p.m. Christopher D. Hunter, 32, Coatesville, was housed at the jail on a court order.

• At 2:36 p.m. David A. Byers, 41, Greencastle, was booked in on a pair of local warrants.

• At 8:59 a.m. Pamela A Scott, 48, Russellville, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

Thursday

• At 8:55 p.m. Jeffery W. Burger, 60, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 8:55 p.m. Keith K. Kowalkowski, 34, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 11:12 a.m. Jimmie D. Eastham, 40, Sydney, Ill., was booked in on a writ of body attachment.

City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 10:29 p.m. Sunday, Dexter L. Caudill, 35, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Stopped in the parking lot at the Putnam County Jail on Keightly Road, Caudill was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

Lodged in the jail, Caudill registered a .17 percent blood-alcohol concentration after a blood draw at Putnam County Hospital.

• At 9:33 p.m. Saturday, Donald C. Smiley, 23, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Justin Herd.

Taken into custody at the Marathon station on Indianapolis Road, Smiley was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for possession of a narcotic drug.

• At 6:27 p.m. Friday, Brian L. Meece, 42, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Herd.

Taken into custody on County Road 100 East, Meese was lodged in the jail for driving while intoxicated-refusal, neglect of a dependent and domestic battery.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent crash.

• At 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, Marc R. Wilson, 64, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 25 South attempting to turn right into his driveway in a 2022 Lincoln Aviator. Emily M. Gray, 16, Greencastle, was eastbound in a 2013 Hyundai Veloster.

Gray told Deputy Josh Clark she did not see Wilson turning and struck the rear of his vehicle.

Medics were called to the scene due to Gray complaining of chest pain. She was checked out and released.

Gray’s vehicle had to be towed. Clark estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four incidents since Thursday evening:

• At 9:32 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Wilson House at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:35 and determined the alarm was due to marijuana smoke. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 9:42 p.m.

• At 6:08 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched for a structure fire at 1001 Crown St. Firefighters arrived at 6:13 and found smoke coming from the eaves of a detached garage. The fire was traced to an air compressor and quickly extinguished. The fire’s cause was undetermined. The garage was ventilated before GFD went back into service at 6:40 p.m.

A box alarm was initially called but disregarded.

• At 9:12 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Mansfield House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:17 and were advised that the alarm was already reset, with the cause being cooking. GFD went back into service at 9:26 p.m.

• At 10:18 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident with minor injuries at the intersection of Locust and Washington streets. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 10:22 and were advised that it was secured. GFD went back into service at 10:26 a.m.

Additionally, GFD responded to six medical assists and had two disregards during and after this timeframe.
