BAINBRIDGE – A second set of Putnam County Baseball and Softball Tournament rematches played out largely the same as they had Saturday when North Putnam hosted South Putnam Wednesday afternoon.

The Cougars won both games again, the softball team defeating the Eagles 9-2 while on the baseball diamond the hosts won 11-1 in six innings.

At softball, South Putnam took a 1-0 lead after a single and error allowed Danae Cline to score in the top of the first but the lead was fleeting as North Putnam was up 3-1 by the end of the inning.

Ashlynn Stacks opened with a single and scored on Brilye Schmitz’s double. Kyndal Brewer followed with a double to plate Schmitz while Kylie Rust hit a sac fly to bring in Brewer.

The Cougars added a run in the second as Schmitz forced a run in with a ground ball with the bases loaded though the hosts could not add to their tally with two on.

A Mackenzie Mason triple in the third inning would bring in two more runs to make it 6-1 before North Putnam manufactured a pair of runs in the fourth as Brewer and Emma Williams hit ground balls that brought in a run each.

Camryn Riggle brought in an additional run in the inning but that would be the last tally of the night for the hosts as South Putnam brought in Jaicee Jackson in relief of Alyssa Pingleton in the circle.

The junior followed on from her strong outing against Indian Creek, scattering three hits across the next two innings.

Riggle, in relief of Karyssa Miller in the circle starting in the fourth, avoided a sticky situation in the fifth after issuing three walks, getting a pair of fly balls to get out of the jam.

The freshman would allow a run in the sixth as Peyton Freeman singled in came in on a double and error off the bat of Faith Will in the sixth before Miller closed out the seventh to secure the win.

In a similar fashion to Saturday’s game, South Putnam led off the baseball contest with a run in the top of the first and North Putnam responded with multiple runs in response, building a quick 6-1 lead and scoring in every inning of its 11-1 win.

Kyle Glasson drove in the Eagles’ sole run of the night with a single but the Cougars were in front quickly after a pair of walks was punished by a Brayden Monnett double that made it 2-1 in the bottom of the first.

Cam Bozell nearly worked out of bases-loaded jam but a Jayce Monnett single plated a third run in the inning as the hosts led 3-1 after an inning of play.

The lead doubled to 6-1 in the second as Brayden Monnett drove in two more runs with a single, though the senior was caught stealing second two pitches before Jaylen Windmiller took Bozell over the center field fence to make it 6-1.

North Putnam added a run in the third on a two-out triple by Kaden Helderman and single by Brogan Woodall, adding another run in the fourth when Windmiller singled, moved to third on an error and was brought in on a grounder from Alex McKenzie.

Woodall would reach on an error in the fifth and maneuvered his way around the bases to score the ninth Cougar run of the game.

Braxton Woodall would end the game in the sixth after McKenzie reached on an error to lead off the frame, driving the ball over the left field fence for a two-run walk off home run.

Brayden Monnett took the win on the mound, allowing a run on four hits while striking out nine. Windmiller pitched two innings of relief, striking out five. Bozell took the loss, allowing nine runs, eight earned, on 10 hits and three walks, striking out six.
