A Greencastle man is behind bars in connection with his wife’s death.

Joseph R. Rosa, 72, was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 9:18 p.m. Sunday on the preliminary charge of murder.

Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, police have released few details. However, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Detective Capt. Doug Nally said police were called to the Rosa residence Sunday morning for a report of a deceased female at a residence on the 3000 block of County Road 550 West.

Nancy Rosa was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers and detectives from multiple agencies worked together throughout the day on Sunday, including PCSO detectives Nally, Don Pettit and Matthew Biggs, evidence technicians from the Indiana State Police and Detective Capt. Michael Collins of the Greencastle Police Department.

The Putnam County Coroner’s Office as well as deputies Josh Boller, Kyle Lee and Randy Patrick were also involved in the investigation.

Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter is also staying abreast of the investigation and will make the final decision on formal charges.

An autopsy of Nancy Rosa has been set for Monday afternoon.

Story will be updated when more details become available.

  • How can he be charged? The autopsy has not been done/no cause of death. What happened to "innocent until proven guilty"??

  • Apparently evidence or responses to questions at the scene were sufficient to support charging him. He’s still presumed innocent. Assuming anything else is pure speculation.
