Hackleman, Switzer advance to IHSAA Boys' Track State Finals

BLOOMINGTON – Two Putnam County athletes earned spots at the IHSAA Boys’ Track and Field State Finals from the Bloomington North Regional Thursday.

North Putnam’s Nolan Hackleman finished second in the long jump (21-08.25) and South Putnam’s Wyatt Switzer finished second in the 300-meter hurdles (), setting a new school record in the event.

Switzer is seeded 16th at the state finals in the 300-meter hurdles while Hackleman is seeded 23rd in the long jump.

Hackleman also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (50.51), missing a spot in the finals by .08 seconds to Bloomington North’s Josh Tait.

The Cougars finished tied for 10th at the regional alongside fellow WIC squads Brown County and West Vigo on 17 points, ahead of fellow conference foes Northview (14), Edgewood (10), Owen Valley (4) and Sullivan (1).

South Putnam finished 21st overall on nine points while Greencastle was 25th overall on five points.

Bloomington North won its regional with 120 points while Bloomington South was second (81) and Jeffersonville was third (50).

Place finishers at the regional included a fourth-place finish for Greencastle’s Andrew Adams in the pole vault (12-06), a fifth-place finish for North Putnam’s Matt Farrington in the long jump (20-06) and eighth-place finish for North Putnam’s Jeremiah Miles in the 1,600-meter run (4:42.17) and the South Putnam 3,200-meter relay team of Gabe Feltner, Dunkin York, Evan Hinkle and Keaton Chew (8:33.17).

Other finishes included ninth-place finish for Cloverdale’s Tayt Jackson in the 300-meter hurdles (42.09), the North Putnam 1,600-meter relay team of Farrington, Hackleman, Myckah Slagle and Brayden Monnett (3:34.86) and 3,200-meter relay team of Monnett, Miles, Evan Polley and Corie Stancombe (8:36.12) and Greencastle’s Cole Hutcheson in the high jump (5-10t), 10th-place finishes for Greencastle’s Brendle Brennan in the 110-meter hurdles (16.31) and Landon Miller in the 1,600-meter run (4:43.37) and 3,200-meter run (9:57.78), an 11-place finish for South Putnam’s Ben Teipen in discus (135-05), a 12th-place finish for the Greencastle 400-meter relay team of Hutcheson, Dylan Olson, Clay Glessner and Jake Miller (45.39) and 15th-place finishes for South Putnam’s Hayden Meredith in the high jump (5-08t), Greencastle’s Lamar Moore in the 200-meter dash (23.90) and the 1,600-meter relay team of Glessner, Hutcheson, Miller and Moore (3:44.58).
