BRAZIL — The opening show for the Brazil Concert Band is set for this Sunday, June 4 at 8 p.m. at the Forest Park bandshell. In case of rain, the band will perform in the pavilion.

This week, the band will present a set celebrating the recent coronation of King Charles III. The performance will feature music from Great Britain, including many compositions heard during the coronation.

The previous coronation took place 70 years ago in 1953 for Queen Elizabeth II, who is the longest-serving monarch in British history.

John Huber, the band’s principal euphonium player, met and shook hands with the now-king while earning his master’s degree in music at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. At the time, then-Prince Charles served as royal patron of the music school.

This being his 42nd year as conductor, Matthew Huber and the musicians will include “Wellington March” by Wilhelm Zehle, “Crown Imperial” by William Walton and arranged by Jay Bocook, “Colonel Bogey on Parade” by Kenneth J. Alford, “Sea Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams and excerpts from “An Original Suite” by Gordon Jacobs and arranged by James Curnow.

Also set for the performance are “The Royal Welch Fusiliers” and “Imperial Edward” by John Philip Sousa, “The Dam Busters” by Eric Coates and arranged by William Schoenfeld, “Royal Air Force March Past” by Henry Davies and George Dyson and “The Rose, Shamrock and Thistle” also by Sousa, which includes part of “God Save the King.” Sousa’s “The Star-Spangled Banner” will close the concert.

The band performs every Sunday evening in June, July and August and welcomes area musicians to join its ranks.
