Auditions for ‘Anything Goes’ set at Playhouse for Sunday, Monday

Cole Porter’s music is returning to the Putnam County Playhouse. Director Brad Sandy will have two sessions of auditions for the musical “Anything Goes.”

The first session will be Sunday, June 18 at 3 p.m. and a second session will be Monday, June 19 at 7 p.m. Both will be held in the Michael McClaine Rehearsal Center at the Hazel Day Longden Theatre.

“Anything Goes” is being sponsored by First National Bank and will be produced Aug. 17-19 and Aug. 23-26.

Characters in the musical comedy include Reno Sweeney, a brash comedienne and singer; Moonface Mullins, who is Public Enemy Number 13; Erma, the girlfriend of Moonface; Billy Crocker, a young businessman; Hope Hampton, the object of Billy’s affections; Mrs. Harcourt, Hope’s mother and protector; Elisha Whitney, Billy’s boss; and Sir Evelyn Oakleigh, an absent-minded British Lord. Many smaller roles are also open.

Sandy is looking for a cast of performers ages 18 and up. Those auditioning will read from the script. They are also asked to prepare 16 bars of a song to sing and be prepared to dance. There is a large tap dancing chorus in the show as well as the characters mentioned.
