Sandlot League proceeds to benefit Chavez family
REELSVILLE — A local family will benefit from the proceeds of an upstart local softball and baseball league.
Each week, the Sandlot League brings together area youth baseball players on Tuesdays and softball players on Thursdays. New teams are chosen each week, and then they do what kids will do — Play ball.
The use of the fields at the Reelsville Community Center (formerly Reelsville Elementary School) has been made possible by the efforts of Michael Blake, who continues to work to restore them for use for the first time in more than a decade.
The players gather each week at 6 p.m. to choose teams, with games following thereafter.
This week is a special one at the diamonds, as money is being raised to help a family whose daughter is involved in the softball league.
The Chavez family of Greencastle recently had its home heavily damaged in a fire. There will be a donation jar for the family, with proceeds from the concessions stand also going to their benefit.
Anyone interested in supporting the league or specifically the Chavez family is invited to the Reelsville fields on Tuesday or Thursday this week.
