First responders move a patient from a Putnam County EMS ambulance to a StatFlight medical helicopter at South Putnam Middle/High School following a collision on U.S. 40 Wednesday afternoon. Units were dispatched for a motor vehicle incident with injuries and entrapment at County Road 300 East. Witnesses stated that the patient was traveling behind a truck and trailer that attempted to turn north when she slammed into it. With the Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department also responding, Greencastle firefighters extricated the patient as her vehicle was extensively damaged. While the truck driver was unhurt, the patient reportedly had open fractures. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office worked the incident, with a Cloverdale deputy marshal also assisting. Curtis Wrecker picked up the patient’s vehicle.
