City, university seek community input during Tuesday forum

Thursday, August 24, 2023

As the City of Greencastle and DePauw University move forward in looking at infrastructre needs, the two entities are seeking community input.

The city and university were recently awarded a $250,000 planning grant by the Lilly Endowment that will be used to develop a plan to address infrastructure needs related to housing, recreation, education and aesthetics.

The grant leadership team will host a community forum from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at the Inn at DePauw, 2 W. Seminary St.

The forum will be an open house format that will consist of planning stations. Attendees may drop by at any time during the event to have the opportunity to interact with team members of the grant’s urban planning development firm who will guide conversations and feedback at each station.

This planning grant will be used to develop a master plan for the corridor between DePauw and downtown Greencastle and possibly other areas of town. In the spring of 2024, the Lilly Endowment will be accepting applications for up to $25 million to support projects that result from these planning grants.

The planning phase of the grant will run through early winter when the submission of the final grant occurs.
