CLOVERDALE – The Greencastle Tiger Cub volleyball team looked sharp and handled the host Cloverdale Clovers in straight sets 25-4, 25-20, 25-8 in WIC action Thursday night.

Greencastle came out firing, scoring the first six and did not look back. With the score 10-4, the Cubs scored the last 15 points to quickly take the first set. Five different Cubs had kills in the set, including three from Keely Amis. It would be a good night for the Greencastle hitters.

The second set was a different story. Cloverdale came out and battled from the beginning. They were able to stay within striking distance right until the end. Three kills from Emily Mann had the Clovers within one point late in the set.

Tiger Cub sophomore Allie Landry took matters into her hands. She had a kill and closed the set with three service aces for Greencastle which stymied the Cloverdale rally.

Greencastle got right down to business in the third set, opening up with the first six points, including a kill from Mackenzie Creviston to end the run.

After a hitting error, the visitors tallied six more points to take control of the final set. Mann tried to keep the Clovers in the game with three more kills in the final set, but it was too much Cubs down the stretch.

“We got into it a little more tonight. We tried some different things. Our service was a lot better tonight,” Greencastle coach Denise Meyer said.

Greencastle’s offense generated 33 kills and 16 aces on the night. All total seven players recorded a kill. The Tiger Cubs are now 8-6 on the season with a big week ahead next week, playing Cascade, Edgewood and the Putnam County Volleyball Tournament.

Cloverdale battled throughout and showed signs of improvement.

“We got a little momentum in the second set but could not keep it going. We seem to be having better stretches through the season,” Clover coach Paige Glassburn said.
