Indianapolis man charged in VBL shooting incident
VAN BIBBER LAKE — An Indianapolis man has been charged in a shooting incident that occurred in the Van Bibber Lake area.
According to the Indiana State Police, at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, an off-duty trooper was working on a fence near the intersection of county roads 325 West and 450 North when a gunshot came from a nearby vehicle.
The vehicle was stopped in the roadway within 25 feet of where the trooper was, after which it sped away. Multiple local law enforcement officers responded to the area after the trooper called 911 and requested assistance.
After an extensive search, the vehicle was located by 9 p.m. Saturday. The driver, Michael Lee McConnell, 19, was taken into custody and transported to the Putnam County Jail without incident.
Sheriff Jerrod Baugh confirmed to the Banner Graphic Saturday evening that no one was injured in the incident. As such, no active situation occurred apart from the search.
McConnell has been preliminarily charged with criminal recklessness with a firearm, a Level 6 felony.
