REELSVILLE — A home near Reelsville was destroyed in a blaze that called upon multiple fire departments on Monday.

The Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department was initially dispatched to the area of 7318 W. CR 750 South at about 10:40 a.m. for a report of smoke, after which the fire was confirmed.

The home’s whole south end was engulfed by Reelsville Fire’s arrival. A box alarm was then dropped, in which firefighters from the Cloverdale Township and Madison Township volunteer departments and the Greencastle Fire Department responded.

Putnam County EMS and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office were also at the scene. The Poland Volunteer Fire Department was en route but disregarded for a motor vehicle incident.

Reelsville Fire Chief Brian Stearley told the Banner Graphic at the scene that two handlines were deployed to get at the fire. Water was fed from Reelsville Fire’s tanker to its engine.

The narrow roadway made it difficult for apparatuses to get to the scene, apart from the fire being very hot on Stearley’s arrival.

While it flared up after being hit with a deck gun, he said the fire was knocked down in 20 minutes. Overhaul of the debris was then conducted.

Later, overhaul of the extensive debris is conducted. While one pet died, no one was hurt in the incident.

Stearley stated that some of the occupants were outside after putting a roast in the oven when the fire started. One was still inside asleep when they woke up and escaped along with many pets.

While one pet succumbed, none of the occupants or personnel were hurt. The American Red Cross was called to assist the occupants. Duke Energy was also requested to secure utilities to the property.

According to Putnam County GIS, the home was listed to Michael Cagle and Tanner Glenn.
