Constitution Week recognized locally
Emphasizing the importance of the U.S. Constitution to our every day life and rights, the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is commemorating Constitution Week Sept. 17-23, with support from the county and city.
Washburn Chapter DAR members recently met with both the Putnam County Commissioners and Greencastle Mayor Bill Dory, each of whom signed proclamations recognizing Constitution Week locally.
Commissioners Tom Helmer, David Berry and Rick Woodall signed a county proclamation on Tuesday, Sept. 4 recognizing the U.S. Constitution as “the guardian of our liberties, (which) embodies the principles of limited government in a republic dedicated to rule by law.”
Dory’s proclamation asks “our citizens to reaffirm the ideals the framers of the Constitution set forth in 1797 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties.”
Sunday, Sept. 17 marked the 236th anniversary of the signing of the document.
