10th-annual Oktoberfest event set this Saturday at St. Paul’s

St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Greencastle will host its 10th-annual Oktoberfest event this Saturday, Oct. 7.

Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, the event will unfold from 3-10 p.m. at 202 E. Washington St. with a variety food and activities.

The idea behind the annual event has been to bring the community and the parish together for a day of fun and fundraising.

“Oktoberfest is a great festival for our parish, it serves as a homecoming for our parish, it also brings the community together,” spokesman Matt Welker said. “All are welcome at Oktoberfest.”

Welker noted that he does not believe any prices have been raised since the event began, with the exception of a new price for homemade corn dogs made by Rock and Mary Beth Kaiser, which are now $3. These are based on a family recipe from an Evansville drive-in.

The event will include live music by Joe Wright Acoustic of Sullivan from 6-10 p.m.

Outdoor activities are planned in the church parking lot. The event features games of chance, raffle drawings, children’s activities, food, beer (both craft and domestic) and wine.

Children’s activities — including pumpkin painting, a bounce house, face painting and games — are scheduled from 3-8 p.m.

Food will include ribeye steak sandwiches, brats, hamburger and porkburgers with all of the meat from Myers’ Market.

Items like homemade desserts and baked goods along with homemade pretzels will also be available.

Besides bingo, the church will also host a number wheel, pull tabs and a poker booth.

Raffle drawing prizes will include cash, Indianapolis Colts tickets, Purdue football tickets, Myers’ Market and golf gift certificates, winery wine tasting and restaurant gift certificates and more. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5, the same pricing in advance or at Oktoberfest.

Raffle prizes will be drawn throughout the evening.

Discounted food, drink and game tickets are available if purchased prior to the event at St. Paul’s Church office Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Discounted price is $25 in tickets for $20. Tickets can be purchased at the event for the regular price.

Proceeds are distrubuted throughout the community, including annual donations to Beyond Homeless and CareNet Pregnancy Center, as well as contributing to youth activities within the parish.
