County Jail

Four people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 3:16 a.m. Stacy A. Woodruff, 41, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

Saturday

• At 2:01 p.m. Paul A. Brown, 56, Greencastle, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 9:20 a.m. Delilah M. Willard, 37, Russellville, was housed at the jail for criminal trespass and criminal mischief.

Friday

• At 10:09 a.m. Michael A. Ramirez, 27, Poland, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 3:51 a.m. Saturday, Jeffrey Colon, 32, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Taken into custody at South Jackson and Larrabee streets, Colon was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana.

• At 2:35 p.m. Thursday, Danielle Querry, 34, Terre Haute, was arrested by Sgt. Nick Eastham.

Taken into custody in the backyard of an Avenue B residence, Querry was arrested on a Putnam County warrant relative to original charges for auto theft and driving with a suspended license with a prior offense. She was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

One recent citation was issued by city officers:

• At 9:55 p.m. Saturday, Mary Trevino, 58, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Damon Ludwig.

Stopped along North Jackson Street, Trevino was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 9:38 p.m. on Saturday, Zane Merwe, 33, Anderson, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2021 Dodge Ram when he hit a deer.

Deputy David Bennett estimated damage at less than $1,000.

• At 5:54 a.m. on Saturday, Jaymey L. Yeley, 30, Poland, was northbound on County Road 500 West in a 2013 Ford Edge when she hit a deer.

The vehicle towed. Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 10:33 a.m. on Friday, Cassandra B. Harlan, 37, Brazil, was southbound on County Road 375 West in a 2011 Toyota Camry when she began to drift off the road.

Harlan told Cpl. Helmer she overcorrected, which caused her to lose control and again leave the road, where the car hit a utility pole.

Helmer cited Harlan for a driving with a suspended license infraction and for driving without financial responsibility.

The vehicle was towed. Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 5:50 a.m. on Friday, Ronald W. Seyfert, 66, Kingman, was southbound on U.S. 231 in the Plessinger’s Hill area in a 2007 Freightliner Columbia registered to Attica Ready Mix Concrete.

The vehicle left the west side of the road and overturned, heavily damaging a fence.

Seyfert was trapped in the vehicle, but Deputy Kyle Lee was able to converse with him.

Firefighters were able to extricate Seyfert from the vehicle, and he was transported from the scene for pain and a severe laceration to his ear.

Lee estimated damage at $50,000-$100,000. The vehicle was recovered and towed by Curtis Wrecker.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to eight incidents since Thursday afternoon:

• At 12:22 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Cummins Behavioral Health for a smell of gas inside the building. Firefighters arrived at 12:30 and did not detect gas, it being determined that the smell was sewer coming from a sink. GFD went back into service at 12:42 p.m.

• At 2:08 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:13 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 2:21 p.m.

• At 5:08 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was called to assist police at Asbury Towers with a propane tank with a torch attached to it. Firefighters arrived at 5:13 and determined there were no issues with the tank and that it was left behind by a crew doing roadwork. The tank was removed, and GFD went back into service at 5:19 p.m.

• At 1:08 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 1057 Avenue C for a smell of smoke in the residence. Firefighters arrived at 1:11 and were advised by the homeowner of a hot electrical smell after a fan with a light quit working. No cause for the smell was determined. GFD went back into service at 1:31 a.m.

• At 2:57 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 2768 E. CR 50 South for a transformer on fire. Firefighters arrived at 3:05 a.m. and found the top of a pole on fire. Hendricks Power was contacted, and they stood by until it arrived. GFD went back into service at 4:24 a.m.

• At 11:34 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was called to the apartments at Round Barn Manor for a person trapped in a dumpster, after they attempted to retrieve something that had been thrown away. Firefighters arrived at 11:43 and helped the person out of the dumpster. GFD went back into service at 11:46 a.m.

• At 7:33 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the 1478 N. U.S. 231 for a possible structure fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 7:40 and found an old collapsed barn on fire. The fire was contained inside the building’s block walls, and the property owner was advised to monitor it. GFD went back into service at 7:54 p.m.

• At 11:29 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was called to the Walmart Supercenter to assist police with a suspicious package near a gas line. Firefighters arrived at 11:41 and determined the package contained locating equipment that was possibly left by a company. The equipment was secured, and GFD went back into service at 11:47 p.m.

Additionally, GFD reported 15 medical assists, two disregards and no incidents found on two dispatches.
