Banner Graphic: How important are sports to you, and what have you learned from them?

Lexi Daigle: “Sports are very important to me, basically my whole life. They take up every night and most weekends. I’ve learned leadership roles, especially being a captain, and I’ve also gained lots of friendships.”

BG: Talk about each of your sports.

LD: “I’ve played all three sports every year in high school. I am a setter in volleyball and hit 1,000 career assists as a senior. I’m a guard or small forward, whatever coach tells me to do in basketball. In softball, I’m a utility player but my favorite position is second base.”

BG: What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you in sports?

LD: “I tried to shoot a halfcourt shot. Usually, you think most shots wouldn’t hit the goal but mine went over the goal.”

BG: What does your game day routine look like?

LD: “I wake up, eat Cinnamon Toast Crunch, go to school, eat our team dinner with everyone, do homework if I have it, go to the gym before the game, shoot and then play ball.”

BG: Do you have any favorite college/pro sports teams or athletes you follow?

LD: “Michael Jordan. I study him. My mom was a big Michael Jordan fan and my brother is named Jordan.”

BG: In the past couple of years, there has been some turnover in terms of coaches in the volleyball and basketball programs. Given this has happened at a time when there hasn’t been as many seniors on some of those teams, how have you managed these changes as well as helped others to adapt?

LD: “Especially in the senior group two years ago, I was really close with one of them; she was my role model in a sense. The way she helped me through my sophomore year of sports was inspiring, so I’ve used some of her ways and relayed those to the underclassmen we have now.”

BG: What else do you do at school besides things involving sports?

LD: “I’m involved in multiple clubs, like FCA, NHS, Key Club, JAG, student council and Pep Club.”

BG: What do you like to do outside of school and sports?

LD: “I like to hang out with my friends and my sister. She’s kind of cool.”

BG: What are your favorites in movies, TV and music?

LD: “My favorite show is ‘The Vampire Diaries.’ Right now, I’m watching ‘Pretty Little Liars.’ I watch a lot of TV shows. I’m into country music, like Zach Bryan, but I do listen to some rap and today’s hits. I like the movie ‘Starstruck.’”

BG: Are you a person that wants to watch TV shows and movies or stream something from YouTube, Twitch, TikTok etc.?

GH: “I’d probably get on TikTok to be honest. Then I’d watch Netflix then go out and play in the snow.”

BG: What is something you have never done before that you would like to do someday?

LD: “Skydiving. I’m going this summer.”

BG: Speaking of such things, what is your biggest fear?

LD: “Snakes. They’re gross.”

BG: You’ve been placed in charge of making dinner. What’s on the menu?

LD: “Tacos. That’s my favorite food and they’re easy to make. I’m not a good cook, so tacos it is.”

BG: Do you have any pets?

LD: “I have a dog, a Toy Aussie named Ripley.”

BG: If your house were on fire, all living things were already out and you have your keys, cell phone, wallet/purse etc., what is one thing you would go back and get?

LD: “I’d get my great nana’s ring that she gave to me a few years ago. It’s special to me.”

BG: A family member has hit the lottery. After everything is paid off and money is set away for the future, you’ve been asked to buy something you have always wanted to get. What are you asking for?

LD: “I would probably go on a trip to where ‘The Vampire Diaries’ was filmed. I’m a huge fan. And I would meet Ian Somerhalder.”

BG: If you were to describe your personality in one word, what would that word be and why?

LD: “Outgoing. I’ll talk to anyone. I am always happy and joyful. I like making people happy.”

BG: What has been your favorite place to visit?

LD: “Ft. Myers, Fla. It’s hot, I can get a tan, swim at the beach and my grandparents live down there.”

BG: What was your favorite school field trip?

LD: “Lucas Oil Stadium. We got to go in the locker rooms and other places.”

BG: How important is support from your family and classmates to your success?

LD: “Really important as I am very competitive in sports. Friends and family are really important to me. That’s who I’m with all the time and who I like to spend my free time, and non-free time, with.”

BG: Describe your overall school experience both academically and athletically.

LD: “I love North Putnam. It’s small, I know everybody, I talk to everyone, the teachers are all great and want you to learn. I’ve had all As and Bs my school career. I love all my coaches, teachers and friends. It’s great.”

BG: If your school was to offer a class it currently doesn’t, what would you want to see taught?

LD: “An interior design class.”

BG: What are your plans for after high school, and what career are you headed toward?

LD: “I want to go to Purdue to study exploratory studies but I’m interested in interior design.”

BG: Is it difficult to keep up with your schoolwork being an athlete?

LD: “No. I’m pretty good at managing my time and when I have free time in school, I’m trying to get my work done or studying.”

BG: Which particular classes and teachers have helped you the most in high school?

LD: “Ms. Spencer. She was my volleyball coach and Algebra II teacher. Me and her connect a lot. She’s positive and inspiring, which helps me. I like someone I trust, can be positive and isn’t judging me if I need that extra help.”

BG: After college, if you had your choice, would you want to live in the mountains, on the beach or in the neighborhood?

LD: “I like people but I want my own space. I do want a big body of water, not an ocean, but a pond or lake to swim in with lots of land. A small town setting.”

BG: Do you think high school has gone fast, and are you going to miss it?

LD: “High school has gone really fast. I feel like I was just a freshman. I’ll miss people in my grade that are my best friends. It’s starting to hit that I’ll be leaving and be two hours away from them instead of them being right there. It’s been fast and I’m going to miss it.”
