Wanda Carol (Huchel) Richardson entered Heaven’s gates on Dec. 18, 2023.

Born on Jan. 22, 1939, she was the third of four daughters born to Dorothy (Thompson) and Robert L. (R.L) Huchel, all of whom preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was an infant son, Wayne Fore.

For the past 20 years she mourned the passing of our father, her great love, Millard (Bud) Richardson. We rejoice at their reunion.

She is survived by her children, Millard “Destry” Richardson, Michele Boler and Robert Richardson (Sunday), as well as stepdaughters Cynthia Richardson and Roxanne Kitzman and a brother, Darrell (Cindy) Huchel. Her legacy continues in her grandchildren, Devan Lambert (Chad), Jessica Worthington (Aaron), Mitch Richardson (Brandy), Vanessa Richardson (Brant Hough), Brittany Lill (Jeremy), Olivia Boler, Macey Richardson, Haylea Moeller (Justin), Cedric Richardson, Andrew Kitzman, Aaron Kitzman (Morgan), Ashley Kitzman, Suzie McCormack (Josh) and Rikki Dean. She also leaves 21 great-grandchildren.

As the assertive matriarch of her family, Wanda lived her life big and out loud. From her taste in clothing, jewelry, cars and home décor to her deep love of Jesus and her family, she forged her path and left her imprint. With a big heart, she welcomed all into her home.

As a farm girl, she had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. She loved spending time on her back porch with her loved ones explaining the varieties of flowers in her luscious gardens. Another aspect of nature that drew her in was birds. She could name every bird that made an appearance. Her favorite, the oriole, fittingly symbolizes many of the traits that her loved ones cherished in her: joy, happiness, creativity, nurturing and resourcefulness.

She was a woman deeply devoted to her faith. We promise to continue telling her stories in her honor. We will pray, live life big and love our people like her example.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22 at the Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the New Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. on Friday until time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Wanda requested memorial donations be made to the Benevolence Fund at New Providence Baptist Church, 6526 S. CR 550 East, Greencastle, IN 46135.
