Dona Joan Pierce

Dona Joan Pierce, 90, of Greencastle, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born Nov. 28, 1933 in Rockville, the daughter of Elbert and Frances (Thornton) Irwin and was a graduate of Greencastle High School in the class of 1951.

Dona was a homemaker and volunteered with the Putnam County Hospital Guild for several years. She was a lifelong member of Long Branch Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Letha Cofer, Elinor Buis, Marjorie Wallace and Carolyn Flint; and two brothers, Francis G. Irwin and Bobby E. Irwin.

Dona is survived by her husband of 68 years, L. Dale Pierce; children Teresa (Denny) Glenn of Greencastle, Jeff (Shannon) Pierce of Zionsville and Tawnya (Mitchell) Hunter of Mayfield, Ky.; a brother, Don Irwin; grandchildren Michael Glenn, Jessica Glenn, Fran (Brayden) Dahlstrom, Jordan (Chelsey) Pierce, James Pierce, Skyler (Taylor) Hunter and Jake (Hunter) Hunter; great-grandchildren Xavier, Kingston, Remi, Knox, Rowan and Warren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
