SAWs set to begin 16th year of service

Thursday, January 4, 2024

SAWs (Servants at Work), a mission of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, is about to begin its 16th year of service.

The mission will begin its yearly work of providing accessibility ramps and steps to disabled residents of Putnam County as soon as weather permits, usually near the end of February.

Last year, SAWs helped 21 residents improve the access to their homes. It already has six requests for help this year.

SAWs is the only organization in Putnam County that offers no-cost assistance to qualified disabled residents who need help accessing their homes. Without the help of SAWs, many disabled residents cannot get in or out of their homes to go to doctor appointments or the grocery store.

Since 2009, SAWs has helped 274 residents of Putnam County find freedom from entrapment in their homes.

Each year, SAWs usually receives more requests than it can complete in one year, resulting in clients being on the waiting list for the following year.

With this in mind, anyone in need of help from SAWs or anyone who knows someone who might should immediately call Greencastle Presbyterian Church at 653-5713 or email churchoffice@cinergymetro.net.

SAWs is an expensive mission due to the cost of materials, and there is no charge for labor. For this reason, organizers are asking for assistance from the community to help serve those who need SAWs.

Any donations to SAWs may be mailed to P.O. Box 512, Greencastle, IN 46135.
