Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies recently responded to a pair of recent crashes.

• At 4:10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, Dustin Shannon, 35, Cloverdale, was northbound on U.S. 231 at the intersection of U.S. 40 in a 2007 Buick LaCrosse. Angela Wyatt, 47, Reelsville, was eastbound on U.S. 40 at the same intersection in a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse.

Both Shannon and Wyatt told Deputy Derek Tomaw that they had the green light to proceed into the intersection. As Wyatt proceeded eastbound, the right rear of her vehicle was struck by Shannon’s car. The impact caused heavy damage to both vehicles, which were towed.

A witness in a different vehicle told Tomaw that she observed the light change to red for the northbound lanes, but that Shannon did not slow down, running the red light and hitting Wyatt’s vehicle.

The heavy impact of the collision made a tire come off of one of the vehicles, and it ended up hitting the front end of a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado driven by Damon Atkisson, 25, Fillmore, who was sitting stationary in the westbound lanes of U.S. 40.

Tomaw, who was assisted at the scene by Deputy Todd Hopkins, estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 8:10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, Cynthia Jovanovich, 65, Clinton, was eastbound on U.S. 36 in a 2019 Honda CR-V when she hit a deer.

Reserve Deputy Travis Nicholson estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.
