PCHPCA: Resolve to have advance care conversations

Thursday, January 11, 2024

The start of a new year can mark an opportunity to reflect on life and think about setting goals for the future.

However, change is difficult, and most New Year’s resolutions fail within the first two months, as people set goals that are too large to sustain.

People can engage in self-improvement by making small incremental changes to daily habits. This makes positive change more achievable and ultimately more impactful.

In this spirit, the Putnam County Hospice and Palliative Care Association (PCHPCA) is encouraging all adults to work on or update their advance health care directives, as well as have at least one advance care planning conversation in 2024.

“There are many reasons to make advance health care planning a part of your life,” said PCHPCA Director Elaine Peck. “Research shows that people become more active in their own health care, and more engaged with life and living when they are not afraid to have conversations about death and dying.”

For information about advance care planning, visit the PCHPCA website at www.pchpca.org, or contact Peck at contact.us@pchpca.org or 765-301-7614.

The Putnam County Hospice and Palliative Care Association seeks to enhance the quality of life for the terminally ill, their loved ones and caregivers by educating the community about the benefits of hospice, palliative care and advance care planning.

The PCHPCA is a nonprofit public charity that operates with the help of donations, financial support from the Putnam County Community Foundation and fiscal sponsorship by Putnam County Hospital.
