City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to two incidents between Thursday, Jan. 4 and this Thursday:

• At 3:42 p.m. on Monday, GFD was called to assist the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department with a possible structure fire at 3096 W. CR 100 South. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 3:48 and found there was no fire. It was determined that smoke inside the home was from a malfunctioning furnace. The home was ventilated. GFD went back into service at 4:19 p.m. The Cloverdale Township and Reelsville volunteer fire departments were also called but disregarded.

• At 3:58 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Ascena Retail Group for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:07 a.m. and determined that water leaking into a detector head activated the alarm. Maintenance was present to address the issue. GFD went back into service at 4:23 a.m.
