No new county candidates in primary races

No new candidates have filed to run for county office in the last week.

As of Monday afternoon, there was no new movement in the May 7 primary that so far features just one contested race.

With only Republican candidates filed so far, the District 1 commissioner race is set to feature Andy Beck, David Fuhrman and Don Hatfield.

Meanwhile, four incumbents are thus far unopposed in their bids for the GOP nomination — District 3 Commissioner Tom Helmer, County Council member at-large Stephanie Campbell, Coroner Todd Zeiner and Auditor Kristina Berish.

The at-large council race, however, is for three positions, with fellow incumbents Phil Gick and Larry Parker having not filed.

Karrie Minor, meanwhile, is the lone candidate for treasurer.

The filing period for the primary runs through noon on Tuesday, Feb. 9. Potential candidates for county or township office may stop by the Voter Registration Office on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse or download the forms from the Indiana Secretary of State website, www.in.gov/sos.
