One dead, child airlifted in Monday crash

ROACHDALE — A motorist is dead while a child was airlifted following a collision south of Roachdale on Monday.

First responders were dispatched at about 8:10 a.m. for a motor vehicle incident with injuries and entrapment on County Road 250 East. A box truck and a van were found wrecked side by side off the roadway.

Along with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the Roachdale Volunteer Fire Department, PMH Ambulance, Putnam County EMS and the Roachdale Police Department responded to the incident.

The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene, while the child had serious injuries and was flown to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis by Ascension St. Vincent StatFlight. The driver of the box truck was unhurt.

The identities of the deceased, the child and the driver of the box truck were not released as of Monday afternoon.

An Indiana State Police reconstructionist was at the scene, as well as the Putnam County Coroner’s Office.

The roadway was reopened by 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
