County Jail

Three people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 3:04 a.m. Diane E. Sweitzer, 62, Bainbridge, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

Tuesday

• At 5:51 p.m. Holly S. Koger, 44, Whiteland, was taken into custody for battery and public intoxication.

Monday

• At 10:53 a.m. Christina M. Stark, 36, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for probation violation.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 12 incidents between Thursday, Feb. 1 and this Thursday:

• At 5:33 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, GFD was dispatched to assist the Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department with a three-vehicle incident with injuries and entrapment near Suburban Propane. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 5:40 and removed one patient, who was then airlifted from the scene. After cleaning up debris, GFD went back into service at 6:39 p.m.

• At 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw University-owned duplex at 107 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:31 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:36 p.m.

• At 8:04 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4, GFD was dispatched to Delta Tau Delta at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:07 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:10 p.m.

• At 12:50 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Simpson House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:52 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 12:58 a.m.

• At 4:08 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Phi Gamma Delta at DePauw for a fire in the basement laundry room. Firefighters arrived at 4:16 and extinguished a small fire, after which the activated sprinkler system was shut down. The fire started in a basket full of dish towels and rags. The cause of the fire was undetermined. All the residents waited until the alarm and sprinkler systems were reset and cleanup was done. GFD went back into service at 5:22 p.m.

• At 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 505 N. U.S. 231 for a carbon monoxide alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:27 and did not detect CO inside the residence. It was determined the CO alarm needed to be replaced. GFD went back into service at 6:40 p.m.

• At 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Montgomery Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:19 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 4:25 p.m.

• At 7:36 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to the Greencastle Casey’s for a smell of natural gas. Firefighters arrived at 7:42 and did not find a cause for the smell. GFD went into service at 7:48 p.m.

• At 7:48 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to the intersection of Hanna and Jackson streets for a smell of natural gas. Firefighters arrived there at 7:50 and did not find a cause for the smell. GFD went back into service at 7:55 p.m.

• At 8:12 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to the intersection of Primrose Lane and Woodhaven Drive for a gas leak. Firefighters arrived at 8:18 as CenterPoint Energy was on scene and the gas had already been shut off. GFD went back into service at 8:20 p.m.

• At 8:29 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:33 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:42 p.m.

• At 10:08 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Silander House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:12 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:19 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded for 17 medical assists and had five disregards during this timeframe.
