Ivy Tech to host FAFSA worskhops

Monday, February 12, 2024

Ivy Tech will host a series of local workshops designed to assist students and their families with completing the new 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The Greencastle site, located a 915 Zinc Mill Rd., will play host to three different FAFSA workshops:

• InvestED FAFSA Workshop - Thursday, Feb. 22, 4-7 p.m.

• College Goal Sunday - Sunday, Feb. 25, 2-4 p.m.

Tuesday@TheTech FAFSA Filing - Tuesday, March 5, 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m.

The workshops, which will provide support to those navigating the financial aid application process, are open to all West Central Indiana high school students, current Ivy Tech students and prospective students who need assistance with the FAFSA application process. Financial aid experts will be on hand to answer questions, provide guidance on completing the form accurately and offer insights into alternative funding options.

Students who are already enrolled or are planning to attend college during the 2024-25 academic year are encouraged to complete the FAFSA. In Indiana, all high school seniors are required by law to complete the FAFSA or submit an opt-out waiver by April 15 in order to graduate high school. Additionally, students who are eligible to receive the 21st Century Scholarship must complete the FAFSA to claim their award.

“We understand that the FAFSA process can be overwhelming for many students, and our goal is to make it as accessible and straightforward as possible,” said Julie Wonderlin, director of financial aid at Ivy Tech Terre Haute. “These workshops are designed to provide personalized support and ensure that every student understands their financial options when pursuing higher education, including the use of grants and loans.”

Attendees should bring their Social Security number, 2022 Federal Tax Return documents, W-2 forms and other income/benefit information to the event. Anyone who is required to provide information on the FAFSA form (the applicant, their biological or adoptive parents, their parents’ spouses or the applicant’s spouse) will need a StudentAid.gov account before accessing and completing their section of the online form. To create a StudentAid.gov account, visit studentaid.gov/fsa-id and be sure to enter a name and Social Security number exactly as they appear on a Social Security card.

The events will be held in conjunction with a pair of workshops at the Ivy Tech Terre Haute campus, 8000 S. Education Dr., Terre Haute, which are set for 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25 and 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5.

The FAFSA is the first step to being eligible for most forms of financial aid, including nearly $400,000 worth of Ivy Tech grants and scholarships. The state’s deadline to apply for financial aid is April 15.
