LETTER: Putnam County Salvation Army says thank you

Monday, February 12, 2024

To the Editor:

The Salvation Army of Putnam County would like to thank those who gave their time and resources to our 2023 Red Kettle Campaign. The money donated to Putnam County will help those seeking assistance during 2024.

During 2023, the Salvation Army of Putnam County assisted people with emergency needs such as utilities, rent and food. Two Christmas projects provided supplies for the homeless and toys for children. We will be able to serve more in 2024 because of you.

We would like to thank Kroger and Walmart for allowing us to ring from their businesses. Their help gave our ringers a safe place to collect donations.

Thank you to all the people who donated during the campaign by placing money in the kettles and those sending checks to First National Bank of Putnam County.

We want to thank all the folks who rang the bell for the Salvation Army from Nov. 18 through Dec. 23, ringing on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. These people rang in cold, sometimes rainy weather. A special “Thank you” goes to Comprehensive Services under the direction of Lisa Wagle. They rang the bells all day. You will see them ringing every year. Thanks to Jody Crum and F.C. Tucker Realty for giving their time ringing. They too rang the entire day. Also to WOTM Chapter 138 for their service. A “Thank you” to the Banner Graphic newspaper and WREB radio station for their assistance.

Donations can still be made throughout the year. You can send a check or take money to First National Bank in Greencastle. The money raised will remain in Putnam County.

The Salvation Army of Putnam County is looking for dedicated people who would like to serve on the local advisory council. The council meets throughout the year in Greencastle to plan the annual Red Kettle Campaign and other activities. Please call Nancy, the regional service extension liaison, at 317-777-1223 for any questions you might have or to learn more about us.

The Salvation Army of Putnam County would not exist but for those who give of their heart and time. Thank you!
