County Jail

Seven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 3:43 a.m. Taylor S. Helton, 30, Carbon, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

Wednesday

• At 1:50 a.m. James R. Ping, 60, Plainfield, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

Tuesday

• At 8:12 p.m. Robin A. Pingleton, 58, Greencastle, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 2:26 p.m. Keven D. Crowe, 32, Coatesville, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 1:16 p.m. Jason M. Frye, 42, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a writ.

Monday

• At 10:10 p.m. Joseph J. Wootan, 31, Bloomington, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 4:56 p.m. Susan N. McCormack, 37, Greencastle, was booked in on a local warrant.

City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 10:51 p.m. Wednesday, Amber D. Hancock, 44, and Shawn M. Kays, 41, both of Terre Haute, were arrested by Officer Damon Ludwig.

Stopped on Fawnview Drive, Hancock was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and a Vigo County warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of conversion.

Kays was booked in for possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 8:28 p.m. Tuesday, Melissa D. Kemp, 37, Greencastle, was arrested for theft by Officer Justin Herd.

Taken into custody at the Kroger store, Kemp was lodged in the county jail after reportedly loading a grocery cart with $978.64 worth of food and miscellaneous items and pushing it past the checkout and out into the parking lot.

She reportedly told officers she was going out to her car to get her purse.

Two recent summonses were issued by city officers:

• At 9:41 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, Chris Rector, 64, Greencastle, was issued a summons by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Stopped at Franklin and Jackson streets, Rector was cited for operating a motor vehicle without ever obtaining a license.

• At 7:38 p.m. Feb. 15, Lyndon Briones, 20, Greencastle, was given a summons by Officer Angela Taylor.

Cited in an East Washington Street parking lot, Briones was issued a summons into court on a charge of being a minor in consumption of alcohol.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four incidents between Sunday evening and Thursday:

• At 5:33 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to assist the Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department with a report of a structure fire at 204 S. Main St. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 5:45 and it was determined that a resident was burning furniture. GFD went back into service at 5:48 p.m.

• At 1 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD received a direct call for a possible illegal burn at 1022 Avenue B. Firefighters arrived at 1:01 and found a resident burning the remains of a mini barn. Firefighters advised of the city burn ordinance and the fire was extinguished. GFD went back into service at 1:05 p.m.

• At 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:55 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 2:58 p.m.

• At 5:57 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 1019 Avenue D for a carbon monoxide investigation. Firefighters arrived at 6:05 p.m. and did not detect CO at the residence. GFD went back into service at 6:33 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded for six medical assists, had one disregard and covered station for the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department on one out-of-county incident during this timeframe.
