County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 10:28 p.m. Jesse D. Burris, 40, Monrovia, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

• At 6:28 p.m. Joshua D. Ridge, 46, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 6:14 p.m. Matthew F. Buis, 53, Greencastle, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction.

• At 2:23 a.m. Amanda M. Barrett, 39, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 2:16 a.m. Robert W. Mills, 55, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

Tuesday

• At 11:35 a.m. Tyler A. Benoit, 18, Greencastle, was booked in for battery, resisting law enforcement and possession of marijuana.

• At 3:38 a.m. Shilah J. Frakescaterson, 25, Lafayette, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

Monday

• At 4:15 p.m. Billy J. Cooper Jr., 25, Greencastle, was taken into custody for theft.

• At 9:06 a.m. Jamon L. Jemison, 45, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for interfering with a drug screen and probation violation.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 11:22 a.m. Wednesday, Kenneth A. Perrin, 25, Brazil, was arrested by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Taken into custody at the Walmart Supercenter, Perrin was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for criminal trespass.

One recent citation was issued by city officers:

• At 3:26 p.m. Wednesday, Pilar Rodriguez, 22, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer McDaniel.

Rodriguez was cited for failure to prove financial responsibility (no insurance) after a minor accident on Elm Street.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of Wednesday crashes.

• At 12:30 p.m. Matthew F. Buis, 53, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 450 North in a 2000 Ford F-150.

Buis told Maj. Dwight Simmons he swerved to avoid a dog in the road. The truck veered right and hit a utility pole.

The power pole was snapped and utility crews responded.

Buis said he was uninjured and refused medical evaluation. He was taken into police custody later in the day on unrelated charges.

The pickup was towed. Simmons estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 4:20 a.m. Brandon McKamey, 35, Reelsville, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2014 Ford F-150 when he hit a deer.

Deputy Derek Tomaw estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six incidents between Monday morning and Thursday morning:

• At 9:52 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Kappa Kappa Gamma at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:57 and determined the alarm was due to a curling iron. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:05 a.m.

• At 10:21 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:25 and determined the alarm was due to body spray. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:35 a.m.

• At 8:36 p.m. on Monday, GFD received a direct call for a carbon monoxide alarm at 2984 W. CR 100 South. Firefighters arrived at 8:41 and did not detect CO in the home. The homeowner was advised to replace the detector. GFD went back into service at 8:49 p.m.

• At 9:13 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident with injuries at the intersection of U.S. 231 and County Road 100 North. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 9:19 and assessed the driver before the response was turned over to EMS personnel and police. GFD went back into service at 9:27 a.m.

• At 12:54 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD received a direct call for a possible illegal burn at 141 Frazier St. Firefighters arrived at 1:06 p.m. and determined the fire was not allowed under the city burn ordinance. The homeowner extinguished the fire. GFD went back into service at 1:13 p.m.

• At 9:16 a.m. on Thursday, GFD received a direct call for an alarm panel beeping at Alpha Chi Omega at DePauw. Firefighters arrived at 9:17 and determined there was an issue with the alarm system. They advised that the alarm company be contacted. GFD went back into service at 9:27 a.m.

Additionally, GFD responded for eight medical assists and had one disregard during this timeframe.
