County Jail

Seven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 4:54 a.m. Brandon J. Hawkins, 27, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for domestic battery.

Wednesday

• At 12:40 a.m. Colby F. Strasburger, 54, Russellville, was housed at the jail on a home detention violation.

Tuesday

• At 9:24 a.m. Johnathon C. Kashman, 29, Russellville, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 2:30 a.m. Michael J. Thompson, 32, Brazil, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 2:11 a.m. Gregory A. Pitts, 42, Terre Haute, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 1:35 a.m. Matthew C. Terry, 20, Fillmore, was housed at the jail on a pair of local warrants and for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

Monday

• At 11:20 a.m. John C. Jemison, 40, Indianapolis, was booked in on a local warrant.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four incidents between Monday and Thursday:

• At 9:43 a.m. on Monday, GFD received a direct call for smoke inside Starbucks. Firefighters arrived at 9:44 with light smoke present in the building. It was determined that there was an issue with the furnace and power was secured to it. Maintenance arrived, and GFD went back into service at 10:29 a.m.

• At 6:14 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Silander House at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:17 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:24 p.m.

• At 8:06 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Blanchard House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:09 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:14 p.m.

• At 1:55 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to The Valyrian Place for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:03 a.m. and only found that a pull station was activated. The pull station and the alarm system were reset. GFD went back into service at 2:17 a.m.

Additionally, GFD responded for five medical assists during this timeframe.
