County Jail

Fourteen people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 12:30 p.m. Michael L. Phillips, 50, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

Saturday

• At 10:56 p.m. Aron J. Monnett, 39, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for unlawful possession of a syringe.

• At 5:29 p.m. Magon J. Tabor, 32, Greencastle, was booked in for probation violation.

• At 5:05 p.m. Elijah M. Thompkins, 23, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for trafficking with an inmate and possession of a controlled substance.

• At 3:19 a.m. Matthew D. Wieczorek, 31, South Bend, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 1:06 a.m. Melissa E. Spivey, 47, Beech Grove, was booked in on a local warrant.

Friday

• At 8:42 p.m. Bodhi K. Allen, 23, Carbon, was lodged at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 6:07 p.m. Matthew R. Hubbard, 39, Roachdale, was taken into custody on a writ of body attachment.

• At 1:39 p.m. Dakota J. Pennington, 25, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 1:09 p.m. Jeffrey A. VanBibber, 53, Bainbridge, was booked in on a Marion County warrant.

• At 10:52 a.m. Eddie E. Jones, 61, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on pair of local warrants.

Thursday

• At 1:39 p.m. Harley D. Mobley, 22, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 1:29 p.m. Austin C. Pritchard, 29, St. Petersburg, Fla., was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 11:12 a.m. Caleb M. Rollins, 19, Roachdale, was booked in on a pair of local warrants.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 11:13 a.m. Saturday, Donald C. Smiley, 24, Greencastle, was arrested by Sgt. Nick Eastham following a two-vehicle incident at Indianapolis Road and Percy Julian Drive.

Smiley was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after his northbound 2010 Chevrolet Impala struck the rear of a 2014 Kia Optima, driven by Kathryn Hutcheson, 58, Brazil, who had stopped northbound on Percy Julian Drive. Smiley told police he could not stop in time to avoid hitting the Hutcheson vehicle.

Smiley showed signs of impairment, Sgt. Eastham reported, and was arrested.

Total damage in the mishap was estimated at $2,500-$5,000 to the left-rear corner of the Kia and the right-front corner of the Smiley car.

• At 1:39 a.m. Friday, Shiela Tucker, 67, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Stopped at Northwood Boulevard and Franklin Street, Tucker was taken into custody and transported to the Putnam County Jail for driving while intoxicated. Under portable breathalyzer testing, her blood-alcohol concentration registered .086 percent.

One recent summons was issued by city officers:

• At 7:06 p.m. Sunday, Tracy Dunscomb, 50, Greencastle, was stopped by Officer Angela Taylor at Bloomington Street and Veterans Memorial Highway.

Dunscomb was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 16 incidents between Thursday and Monday morning:

• At 8:25 a.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident with injuries at the intersection of County Road 300 South and Hospital Drive. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 8:31 and awaited the arrival of a wrecker, while EMS had patient care. GFD went back into service at 9:15 a.m.

• At 3:37 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Druley House at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:39 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 3:43 p.m.

• At 12:28 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Greencastle High School for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:34 and determined the alarm was activated due to a malfunction with the sprinkler system. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 12:55 a.m.

• At 9:02 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched for a blown transformer near the intersection of Locust and Walnut streets. Firefighters found the transformer at 9:08 and determined a squirrel caused it to short out. Duke Energy was notified as several homes were without power. GFD went back into service at 9:11 a.m.

• At 3:26 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident with injuries at the intersection of Indianapolis Road and Calbert Way. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 3:35 and assisted with patient care and cleaned up fluids and debris. GFD went back into service at 4:20 p.m.

• At 8:06 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Bishop Roberts Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:09 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:16 p.m.

• At 8:49 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to the area of Roy O. West Library at DePauw for a smell of gas. Firefighters arrived soon after and determined the smell came from a relief valve. GFD went back into service at 8:53 p.m.

• At 11:17 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Simpson Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:23 and determined the alarm was due to an electrical malfunction. No fire was found and the alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 11:36 a.m.

• At 3:47 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Kappa Kappa Gamma at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:54 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 4 p.m.

• At 10:29 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 1004 Avenue D for a gas leak. Firefighters arrived at 10:31 a found a leak from the water heater. The homeowner said the lines had been replaced the previous day. The home was ventilated and the gas was secured, while the homeowner was advised to have the issue repaired. GFD went back into service at 10:53 p.m.

• At 1:01 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Simpson House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:06 and determined the alarm was due to a dirty detector head. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:14 a.m.

• At 4:27 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Phi Delta Theta at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:32 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 4:43 a.m.

• At 8:21 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:26 and determined the alarm was due to smoke from a curling iron. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:40 p.m.

• At 11:27 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw-owned duplex at 105 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:31 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 11:35 p.m.

• At 12:46 a.m. on Monday, GFD received a direct call for smoke detectors that were making noises at 110 Autumn Glen Dr. Firefighters arrived at 12:52 as no alarms were active. They assisted with changing the batteries in two detectors. GFD went back into service at 1:10 a.m.

• At 1:51 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Druley House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:55 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:59 a.m.

Additionally, GFD responded for 10 medical assists and had two disregards during this timeframe.
