With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lester E. Miles Jr., a devoted husband, father, papaw, coach and friend who was welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 20, 2024 at the age of 67.

Though his earthly journey was marked by physical challenges, his spirit now soars free in the realms of heaven, where he is reunited with loved ones and made whole once more.

He was born on Oct. 28, 1956 to Anna May (Cage) and Lester E. Miles Sr.

He graduated from North Putnam High School in 1975.

Lester and Sharon (Cross Casteel) were married on Oct. 1, 1983.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years; son Mark (Kimbie) Casteel; grandchildren Sydney and Toby Casteel; sisters Catherine M. (Steve) Baker and Virginia Morgan; and several nieces and nephews.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Corley Casteel; and siblings Sandra, David and Richard Miles.

Despite the challenges he faced, Lester refused to be defined by his limitations, demonstrating extraordinary strength and courage in every moment.

He coached football, basketball, baseball and softball. He was a Ladoga town council member for 20 years, served on the Historic Ladoga/Old Normal board and was a member of the Ladoga Christian Church. For many, Lester was known as the “mayor” of Ladoga. You could often find him at the gas station, grocery store, Ford garage, town office or cruising around town. He found immense joy in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and extracurricular activities.

Lester lived a life guided by resilience, determination and boundless love. As a coach, he inspired countless individuals to reach beyond their perceived limitations, igniting their passion for excellence and instilling in them the belief that anything is possible with perseverance and dedication. His impact extended far beyond the field, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, March 27 at the Ladoga Christian Church from 3–8 p.m. to celebrate his remarkable life. Services will be held on Thursday, March 28 at the Ladoga Christian Church at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest following the service at Ladoga Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountie Mission.

May Lester’s memory continue to inspire us all to live without limitation, embracing each day with courage, grace and love.
