RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Community Center will host a 1940s crime-themed dinner show this Saturday, April 6.

Back before the internet and television, the world came into homes via the radio. Families joined in the adventures of “The Lone Ranger,” were haunted by the reality that “The Shadow” knew and followed “Richard Diamond, Private Detective.” These shows were recorded live by actors reading scripts, their words augmented by different sound effects.

This Saturday, the community can sit in on such a live performance as a 1943 episode of Richard Diamond, then staring Dick Powell, will come alive on the stage. Under the direction of Keith Strain, eight actors will bring to life the 11 characters in this drama.

Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., with the donated menu featuring a variety of soups, sandwiches, a relish tray, drinks and desserts. The play will begin at 7 p.m.

No reservations are required. Proceeds from the event will go toward completing a fund for the community center’s roof replacement.
