Edward E. Schenk, 83, of Greencastle, beloved husband and best friend of Cathy (VanDevander) Schenk for 51 years, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, surrounded by the ones he loved and lived for.

He was born March 10, 1941 in Indianapolis to Edward and Helen (Murphy) Schenk.

Ed attended Cathedral High School, graduating in 1959.

For six years, he worked in the machine shop at Baker Engineering, making race car parts for Indy 500 cars, then was drafted in the U.S. Army from 1963-65 and was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., Fort Bliss, Texas, and Kaiserslautern, Germany. When he returned home, he worked for five years at the Chrysler plant on Indy’s east side before joining the Indianapolis Fire Department on Jan. 7, 1970.

Ed was an engineer on the Indianapolis Fire Department for 36 years before retiring from Station 11 in December 2005.

Ed loved old cars and motorcycles and always had a project to work on. From his teen years on, he enjoyed going to car shows and races and working on the many classic cars, truck and motorcycles he had over his lifetime.

Ed could build almost anything. He had many skills and was a great cook, too. He was a hard-working, soft-spoken guy who was always considerate and loving. He was easy to get along with and had a great sense of humor. Ed gave his family unwavering love and companionship and we thank God for the gift of his life and blessing of the years we spent with him.

Besides his wife Cathy, he is survived by daughter Christina, son-in-law Chris and grandson Jacob.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, brother Mike Schenk and sisters Mary Davis, Rita Warren and Helen K. Anne.

There will be no funeral services, according to his wishes.
