Charles R. "Charlie" Butler, 72, Carbon, died Sunday.

Born in Morgan County, he was the son of Charles O. and Lois N. (Fleener) Butler.

He was a 1952 graduate of Indianapolis George Washington High School.

He was a tool and die maker by trade and in 1957 went to work for his father at Butler Coach Company as a salesman of ambulances and funeral vehicles.

He was a 40-year member of the Franklin Elks Lodge No. 1818, Bridgeport Lodge No. 163 F.&A.M., and a 50-year member and past president of Indiana Funeral Supply Club.

He married Paulane Stepleton on May 13, 2003. She survives.

Other survivors include daughters Kemberlee Hofman and husband Ernie, Evansville, Nancy Lee Judy and husband Galen, Bloomfield, Anastasia Carroll, Indianapolis, and Terry Jean Peak and husband Frank, Indianapolis; son Rex E. Butler, Alpine, Texas; step-son Ronald King, Carbon; one uncle, several cousins, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Chandler-Hays Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Galen M. Judy officiation.

Burial will be at Calcutta Cemetery, Carbon.

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
