Bainbridge Town Council approves salary ordinance

Salaries and wages were set for the Bainbridge Town Council and other employees at Wednesday night's Town Council meeting.

The board also approved the first reading of an ordinance regarding travel expenses for town employees.

Salaries approved included the town council board members, who will receive $2,280 a year paid at a rate of $190 per month. Utility board salaries were set at $2,040, or $170 per month. The town marshal will receive $34,700 a year and the clerk-treasurer salary is set at $6,300.

The deputy marshal will receive $12 an hour with a total number of hours not to exceed 1,000 per year and the deputy clerk treasurer wages are set at $10 an hour with a maximum of 600 hours per year.

The council adopted the first reading for a new ordinance regarding travel expenses for town employees. The new policy states that gas mileage will be reimbursed at the rate established by federal government at the time of the claim. Meal expenses of $25 per day will be paid when an employee is staying overnight on town business. Alcoholic beverages will not be reimbursed. Hotel government rates will be in place for hotel accommodations. No personal expenses will be reimbursed and reasonable parking expenses will be paid once a receipt is submitted.

Town Marshal Rodney Fenwick reported to the council that there were 70 traffic stops last month.

He also praised the cooperation between agencies and civilians who helped during a serious accident last week, which resulted in two people being airlifted to hospitals. "This was the best cooperation between departments I have ever seen.

"There were three military folk who were medically trained who stopped and helped. We also had an out-of-county off-duty officer help and several others assisted.

"Because of these people we were able to help get people help more quickly. It could have been much more tragic," stated Fenwick. He also reported to the board that the child and adult who were airlifted are both going to recover.

Old business issues included snow emergency parking and a new sign for the town hall. Both were tabled.

A short report on the drainage in the city park confirmed that the orange snow fence near the little league field has firmed up and is ready for the next stage.

Sloped cement will be place over the area to prevent any erosion.

The Bainbridge Town Council meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Bainbridge Town Hall.
