Suicide attempt thwarted
A Hendricks Country woman found her way to a Putnam County lake before attempting to kill herself.
Friday morning a call came into Putnam County 911 about an abandoned car near the boat ramp at Van Bibber Lake.
Upon further inspection, it was noticed that the car had valuables signifying that the owner must be nearby.
When the Sheriff's Department arrived, a woman was located in the water that up to her neck. Officials realized the woman was still alive before they could fish her out of the water after she opened her eyes.
"It's safe to say that this was an attempted suicide. Once we realized the woman was alive and got care for her, our involvement pretty well terminated," said Detective Pat McFadden. "There was no criminal activity."
The woman was transported to Hendricks Community Hospital in Danville.
At this time, the woman's identity has not been released and her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
