Area 30 recognizes contributions to its Law Enforcement program
GREENCASTLE -- Area 30 Career Center recently recognized generous contributions of local supporters to the Law Enforcement program.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Department recently donated a retired police cruiser to the career center. The retired patrol car was given a fresh new appearance by way of custom paint and decaling designed, donated and performed by Hutch's Body Shop.
Hendershot's Service Center generously furnished the redesigned vehicle with a new set of four Goodyear brand tires.
Area 30 Career Center Law Enforcement instructor Charles Inman said, "The newly-acquired police car will be utilized primarily by students of the Law Enforcement class for on-site training purposes, but is equally valued by the program for use in various community service, awareness and recruitment activities performed by students each year. "
The two-year Law Enforcement program at Area 30 is devoted to expanding student's views of the criminal justice system and many of the careers open to them throughout the system.
Area 30 Law Enforcement training and practical exercises provide students with knowledge and skills needed in the Law Enforcement field.
Discipline and structure are keys to this program, as students are required to report to class each day in uniform and are held to high personal conduct expectations.
In addition to daily classroom education, students perform several hours "hands-on" activities throughout the school year.
Eminence High School junior Cord Watkins said, "Enrolling in the Area 30 Law Enforcement program is the best decision I have made regarding my education. This program has gotten me away from the norm and showed me the door into a career in law enforcement. The opportunities given to me through Area 30, its training staff and local criminal justice agencies have helped me to better prepare myself for the future."
Internships and job-shadowing opportunities throughout the field of criminal justice are available to qualifying students.
Upon successful completion of the program, high school students can obtain several college credits in association with Vincennes University's Project Excel program.
