City Police

Three recent traffic accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

At 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, the intersection of Indianapolis Road and State Road 240 on the city's east side was the scene of a two-vehicle mishap.

Officer Ed Wilson reported that Randy Winters, 47, Greencas-tle, had stopped his 1993 Ford F-150 pickup truck for a red light when it was struck from behind by a 1990 Honda Civic, driven by Arthur Lowe, 61, Greencastle.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

At 11:07 a.m. May 12, a two-vehicle accident occurred on the parking lot at Deer Meadow Primary School.

Officer Wilson reported that Norene Myers, 68, Greencastle, was backing a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country from a parking space when the van struck a 2004 Toyota being driven through the lot by Patricia Brown, 31, Bainbridge.

Total damage was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

At 4:57 a.m. May 12, a two-car mishap was reported at Ohio and Crown streets.

Clint Gibson, 43, Avon, was reportedly westbound on Ohio Street when a dog ran into the street and Gibson swerved to avoid hitting it. The 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo he was driving, owned by Geraldine Koester, Seelyville, struck a parked 1996 Chevrolet Beretta, owned by William Davis, Greencastle.

Officer Albert Epple estimated total damage at $1,000-$2,500.

County Jail

Inaccurate information from the Putnam County Jail led to an incorrect entry Wednesday's Putnam Scanner.

Michael Kent Hanlon, 49, Greencastle, was booked into the Putnam County Jail for being a habitual traffic violator. There were no further charges.

Sheriff's Department

* May 7, 9:11 a.m.: Cheryl Dean, 16, Cloverdale, was northbound on SR 42 just north of CR 1200S in a 1994 Ford Explorer. Dean lost control due to wet pavement as she rounded a curve.

The vehicle left the north side of the curve into a yard and rolled one time, coming to rest facing south.

Dean said she may have been driving too fast for the conditions.

She suffered minor facial bleeding.

Damage $2,501-$5,000.

* May 11, 9:13 a.m.: Erin Burkeybyle, 29, Terre Haute, was eastbound on CR 400S just west of CR 825 in a 1997 Honda CRV. She lost control due to several potholes, leaving the road on the north, then back across the road onto the south side, where it hit an embankment.

She was treated for facial pain.

Damage $2,501-$5,000.

* May 17, 12:33 p.m.: Brien Holsapple, 47, Roachdale, was northbound on U.S. 231 on Water Works Hill in a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta. He was in the right lane and hit what appeared to be a metal object that was skipping along the road in a southern direction.

Holsapple said the object may have come from a semi tractor trailer that was southbound at the same time.

Damage $1,001-$2,500.

* May 18, 8:08 a.m.: Molly L. Carrillo, 29, Cloverdale, was eastbound on CR 700S in a 2005 Kia Optima when she met the westbound 1999 Ford Taurus driven by Shelbi L. Kinney, 18, Cloverdale.

As Carrillo crested a hill, she noticed McKinney's vehicle left of center. She could not avoid the collision and was struck in the left front.

McKinney said she thought she had hit an animal and was checking her rear view. At that time, she drifted left and hit Carrillo's vehicle.

Carrillo and her 5-year-old child were transported to Putnam County Hospital by Operation Life with minor injuries. McKinney complained of minor injuries but signed a release and was taken to a medical facility by a family member.

Damage $10,001-$25,000.
