Opposite ends of Greencastle's Percy Julian Drive offer quite a contrast Tuesday afternoon. Looking north, from just south of its intersection with Washington Street, the view is smooth new concrete, while the view to the south, looking toward Veterans Memorial Highway, shows there is much work to be done in preparing for the rest of the concrete to be poured. With school resuming next Tuesday, city officials are "still hopeful" the concrete can be poured and properly cured in time for school buses and other traffic to drive on it by then, Mayor Sue Murray said at Tuesday night's City Council meeting. Only time will tell, of course, and city officials continue to work with Greencastle schools about possible options if the concrete work is not done in time.
