County Jail

On Thursday, Dec. 22 at 1:04 a.m. Josh E. Hoffa, 34, Cloverdale, was booked into the Putnam County Jail for operating while intoxicated with prior and driving with a suspended license.

City Police

A wayward vehicle left a path of property damage in its wake late Wednesday or early Thursday on Greencastle's East Side, City Police reported.

Officials at North Salem State Bank, 117 S. Warren Drive, reported damage to their property to GPD officers Thursday morning.

According to Officer Jeff Modlin, an unknown vehicle apparently veered off Veterans Highway onto Warren Drive, jumping the curb in front of the bank and hitting a light and striking a power pole, tearing off a cable and apparently knocking out power for a brief time.

The vehicle continued through the yard, passing between the main NSSB outdoor sign and a tree, then jumping another curb as it went across the front of the bank entrance.

The vehicle continued to the other side of the property, Officer Modlin noted, driving back onto the grass and striking another tree before finding its way back onto the roadway and then leaving the vicinity.

Authorities were unsure Thursday whether surveillance cameras caught the activity or not.

No damage estimate was available as of Thursday afternoon.

In another incident, Officer Modlin was called to Budget Motors, 608 Bloomington St., to investigate a motor vehicle theft at 4:16 p.m. Wednesday.

Taken from the lot was a white 2000 Dodge van which included a Budget Motors sticker in the back window.

The theft reportedly occurred sometime late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

No estimated value was available on the stolen van.

City officers reported a property-damage accident at 5:33 a.m. Thursday.

Rhonda Fisher, 51, Greencastle, was northbound on Bloomington Street, driving a 1998 Ford Explorer, turning left onto Washington Street at the stoplight when her vehicle was struck by a 2005 Dodge Caravan, driven by Jeffrey Whitaker, 37, Roachdale.

Whitaker admitted that he had looked away momentarily and ran the red light, resulting in the collision and a subsequent traffic citation for disregarding an automatic signal.

Capt. Mike Hanlon, who was assisted at the scene by Officer Albert Epple, estimated total damage in the accident at $2,500-$5,000.

Three additional citations were issued by city officers.

-- At 2:04 a.m. Thursday, Preston Hanneman, 20, Cloverdale, was ticketed on Bloomington Street by Officer Eric Vaughan for an expired license plate (outdated in May) and operating a motor vehicle without financial responsibility.

-- At 11:58 p.m. Wednesday, Ryan Patterson, 21, Terre Haute, was ticketed by Officer Nick Eastham for 50 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to a number of runs recently.

* On Saturday, Dec. 17 at 1:23 a.m. GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm at 415 Anderson St. but was disregarded at 1:25 a.m.

At 3:29 p.m. personnel responded to an unauthorized burn at 1009 Avenue C. Cleared 3:51 p.m.

* On Sunday, Dec. 18 at 3:25 p.m. GFD assisted with extrication on a motor vehicle accident at Franklin and Vine streets. Cleared 4:02 p.m.

* On Monday, Dec. 19 at 10:32 p.m. personnel assisted Operation Life with a patient at 1002 Judson Ct. Cleared 10:41 p.m.

* On Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 1:05 p.m. they were dispatched to a fire alarm at 1901 SR 240 East but were disregarded at 1:16 p.m.

* On Thursday, Dec. 22 at 8:55 a.m. GFD responded to an alarm at 620 Tennessee St. They discovered a detector malfunction. Cleared 9:14 a.m.
