Blaze damages Lazy Acres home

An electrical fire damaged a home at Lazy Acres Estates, off of County Road 625 East, the day after Christmas.

Putnam County fire departments responded to a manufactionured home fire at Lot 15 of Lazy Acres Estates around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday. The home, which had rooms added, was owned by Josh Cox and was being rented by Jamie Featherston and his family.

According to Fillmore Fire Chief Mike Davies the family had not been home at the time of the fire, and was gone for about an hour before a neighbor called 911 reporting smoke coming from the eaves of the trailer.

Due to the locked doors, firefighters had to make forceable entry at both the front and the rear doors of the home.

Davies said the fire started in the ceiling between the kitchen and a bedroom. Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to those two rooms.

Damage to the interior of the home was primarily to the two rooms, while the rest of the residence sustained smoke damage. Minimal damage to the exterior of the building was reported.

Davies said that the fire was determined to be electrical.

No injuries were reported, but the family did lose some pets that were inside the home at the time of the fire.

Davies said that their hearts go out to the family because ‚*úa fire after Christ-mas is hard on everybody.‚*ù

Fillmore was assisted at the scene by Greencastle Fire, Jefferson Township Fire, Cloverdale Township Fire and Operation Life. Floyd Township covered Fillmore's station and Steve Walters from the Task Force assisted with the investigation.

The Putnam County Unit of the Wabash Valley Red Cross Chapter was also on hand to assist the family and one of its volunteers. Angela Featherstone is a Disaster Action Team volunteer.
