Trial continued for alleged molester
GREENCASTLE -- A trial for a Coatesville man accused of child molesting was set to take place in Putnam County Superior Court on Tuesday, but was continued until March 2.
Robbie G. Stanton, 35, has been in the Putnam County Jail
Judge Charles Bridges originally set Stanton's bond at $25,000 cash only after Stanton's arrest in early August. In September, Bridges modified Stanton's bond to $20,000 with 10 percent allowed or $15,000 surety.
Stanton is charged with one count of Class C felony child molesting, punishable by a maximum of eight years in prison.
The charge against Stanton stems from a Putnam County Sheriff's Department investigation. Court documents alleged that Stanton fondled an 11-year-old girl on several occasions.
A narrative on the case said Stanton voluntarily checked himself in to a mental health facility just prior to his arrest, and that he had admitted to facility personnel during his intake interview that he had a problem with anger management and that he had molested the alleged victim.
Court records indicated that Stanton had been diagnosed with "underlying mental issues," and that doctors had prescribed medication for him.
Stanton also told hospital personnel that he was drunk when he molested the victim, court documents said.
At his initial hearing on Aug. 7, Stanton pled not guilty.
Stanton is being represented by Greencastle attorney Darrell Felling.
Stanton has no major criminal history.
