Karen Thomas

Karen Joan Thomas, 54, of Greencastle passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 at her home after a long battle with melanoma.

Karen was born May 25, 1955 in Logansport, the daughter of Jimmie R. and Carolyn (Kelley) Thomas.

Karen was a graduate of Greencastle High School class of 1973, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.

She graduated from Butler University in 1977 with a B.S degree, and returned later and graduated with a degree in computer science. She was a quality assurance leader with Pearson Education in Lebanon.

Karen loved to read and go antiquing.

Karen is survived by her father, Jimmie R. Thomas of Greencastle; a sister, Pattie Patten and husband Kenneth and nephews, Aaron and Matthew Patten of Cloverdale; a brother, Robert Thomas and companion Teri Haworth of Indianapolis; and other extended family members.

Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn Thomas.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with the Rev. Carol Sowle of AseraCare Hospice officiating.

Burial will be in the Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
