Traffic stop nets arrest
GREENCASTLE -- A traffic stop on Tuesday led to the arrest of a Cloverdale man wanted for violation of probation.
Michael Wade Davis, 21, of Cloverdale was apprehended by Greencastle Police Officer Darrel Bunton on stadium drive in Greencastle.
Bunten discovered there was a warrant for Davis out of Putnam County Superior Court for a petition to revoke probation, a release from the Greencastle Police Department said.
Davis was also issued a ticket for a driving while suspended infraction.
On Nov. 14, 2007, Davis was convicted of Class D felony receiving stolen property. He was sentenced to three years with one year executed and the balance to be served on probation.
According to court records, Davis began his term of probation on March 12, 2009.
"As a term of probation, the defendant was ordered to cooperate fully with the Adult Probation Department," court records said.
On Jan. 27, Davis' probation officer, Teresa Parrish, filed the petition to revoke Davis' probation. Parrish alleged that Davis committed another crime -- again Class D felony receiving stolen property. Formal charges on that offense were filed in Putnam County Circuit Court on Dec. 10.
Court records indicate an arrest warrant for Davis was signed by Cloverdale Police Department Sgt. Charles J. Hallam on Dec. 10.
"Putnam County Adult Probation has made every effort to work with the defendant in obtaining his cooperation and his satisfactory compliance with these terms," Parrish said in her petition.
Parrish noted Davis had two years of his 2007 sentence that could be reinstated.
No court date has been set for the alleged probation violation. Davis is set to be in court Feb. 25 for a pretrial conference on the new charges.
He remained in the Putnam County Jail Tuesday night.
Davis' criminal history in Putnam County includes convictions for felony theft (two cases), misdemeanor check deception, two counts of misdemeanor battery.
