Roachdale Town Council signs gas application
ROACHDALE -- Town council members signed an application to pursue getting a new gas system for the town. At last month's council meeting, Anthony Everett with the USDI reported to the board that the current gas system had 20 to 30 underground leaks over the past three years.
More than 6 percent of the gas is unaccounted for and causing a serious loss of revenue to the town. Gas mains are deteriorating faster than they can be replaced.
The town could replace every line with plastic and be able to salvage what has recently been replaced.
The gas system's maximum allowable operating pressure is currently between 10 and 12 MAOP. Following replacement of the system it will run at 60 MAOP.
Cost for the project is $1.1 million, and the town will have an entirely new gas system if their application is approved.
A new part-time assistant for the town clerk's office was approved by the board. April Bradley has been working with the Ladoga Town Clerk and has accepted the new position in Roachdale. There are no benefits with the job, and she will be paid $10 an hour.
The board also approved the purchase of two Eagle Eye video recorders for $135 each.
"We can wear these on our uniforms when we are interviewing people in the office or on a call like a domestic violence one. They have both audio and video," explained Town Marshal Mike Mahoy.
There is money in the marshal's budget for the equipment.
A discussion regarding the repair of cracks in the sidewalk on Indiana Street was tabled until more information is made available to the board.
Cracks occurred in the new sidewalks because of the harsh winter conditions this year. The subcontractor has offered to make repairs, but the town would have to tear up the sidewalks for them.
Board member Jack Jones expressed concern about the curbs being chipped in this process.
"The prime contractor for this project was Crider and Crider, and I think we ought to make them come back and fix it," he told the group.
The Roachdale Town Council meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. in the town hall.
