Eagles defeat Eels

The South Putnam boys' golf team picked up a win over Clay City Tuesday after a week layoff, 182-194.

Alex Kelly and Dean Varvel led the way with a 41 each, with Justin Berry carding a 49 and Derek Chestnut and Alex Eickhoff shooting rounds of 51s.

"I am happy for Alex and Dean," head coach Brian McClure said. "Each one of them had a really bad hole out there but kept their composure. You have to be mentally tough to play this game and these two were able to bounce back after bad holes and post a good score.

"Justin is playing much better. It is good to seem him step up when we were short handed tonight," he added.
