Cloverdale board sets new goals

The Cloverdale School Board took time to set its future corporation goals during its monthly meeting last week. Each year the corporation is required by the Department of Education to set goals it hopes to reach during the upcoming year.

"It's time to set new goals," said Cloverdale Superintendent Carrie Milner. "We met all the goals last year."

Milner reported to the board that one of the major functions of he Board of School Trustees is to work with the administration to establish goals each year by which the corporation can accomplish its mission to provide the resources necessary for their accomplishment.

The three main goals the board chose to focus on for the upcoming year is to develop, maintain and monitor student programs to meet the individual needs of the student and encourage students to do their personal best. The board also hopes to manage its financial resources to allocate budgets to meet the instructional needs of both today and in the future along with promoting, building and sustaining relationships with community members.

The corporation hopes to develop and implement a five-year technology replacement plan and work three years ahead of the plan to secure and plan funding. The board will explore options as well as evaluate and prioritize mechanical systems and facilities for needed repair or replacement in order to reduce utility and maintenance costs.

"I am a bit concerned on developing a long-range technology plan," said Milner. "Technology changes so rapidly, a three-year plan is more reasonable."

The board agreed on the ongoing goal of continuously monitoring revenue and expenditures in each fund to operate within all budgetary limits in all tax-supported funds. It will look ahead and preserve cash reserves in the General Fund in anticipation of additional funding reductions at the state level.

The board honored the March students of the month during the meeting, Kacey Shedron, Samantha Atwood and Larry Freund.

It also passed the resignation of Debbie Atwood as the middle school cheerleading coach, hired Amber Manion as the middle school volunteer assistant girls' track coach as well as Rod Mann as a girls' track volunteer assistant.
